Chan is inspired by the deeper philosophical ideas of the Vedic hymns revealed to the Seers of the Veda, i.e the knowledge, the highest spiritual truth of which the human mind is capable. His aspiration to finding meaning in ancient Indian thoughts and discovering their relevance in the present context, led him to study the essence of the Vedas. He was particularly inspired by the work of Sri Aurobindo. This chapter of his life’s journey has a significant influence on his approach to life, as well as his thought process. Naturally, reflections of this influence are visible in all of his work thereafter.

Chan is born with many talents. Drawing and painting as arts, left an impression on him since early childhood.  From a young age, he started experimenting with various mediums like oil on canvas, stippling, charcoal, clay amongst others as means to demonstrate the beauty in various forms of life. Chan’s work won him many accolades, however, even at an age where children thrive on appreciation, rewards never gave him a sense of satisfaction or achievement. Driven by his drive to pursue excellence, he became a firm believer that there is more to art than mere talent and technique. Expressing himself and his deepest emotions on canvas was his ultimate objective.

In his early teenage years Chan also discovered his love for music and started creating music on his own. He was then initiated into Hindustani classical music with instruments like the violin, mandolin and flute.

Even with his inclination towards the fine arts, he could not suppress the techie within him. He went on to become an Electronics Engineer and worked with various IT companies for nearly a decade, while continuing to pursue art and music throughout this period.

His frequent escapes to the Himalayas introduced him to a new medium of art, Photography. He immersed himself in photography. From emoting on canvas, he graduated to emoting in a digital medium. The combination of an artist and a techie was a force to reckon with. This led him to stints with leading companies Nikon & Sony as a Technical/Product head. During this episode of his life, Chan educated many in the art and science of photography. However, the urge to create was so strong that he moved on from his corporate life to be an Artist he always yearned and was meant to be. He leveraged his knowledge of the visual mediums of Photography as well as Video, and fused it with his understanding of music.

Though most of his work today is based on Imaging and Filmmaking, he does not limit himself to any one form of art. The amalgamation of instinctive art, creativity and acquired technical ability with a touch of the deeper knowledge makes his work etherial. Chan is obsessive about perfection and his technical know-how as well as background are impressive.

He believes that Art is not just skill and talent, but a living harmony that must be expressed in all movements of existence.

Along with his better half Meher, Chan is the Co-founder of IDIS.in, a leading visual content studio based out of Delhi where he pursues his passion for art through commercial work.

Philosophy

In this scene of life I have learned that life’s purpose is to advance from one peak of perfection to another, in an endless journey. The aim is not just to lead, but to progress by realising the contribution of each faculty of the power within. This is achieved by being aware of every movement in this life, which is an expression of beauty and harmony. So the aim is to become more and more conscious, see and feel something that is beyond vision and feeling.
Art is the means which helps us to express one’s inner world. Therefore, the training of one’s vision plays an important role. A developed vision at a glance sees more than just the form – the relation between the form, the type, the structure, the proportion of the form, thus, envisioning images in the mind, which are not to be understood by analysis, but by self-identification with other minds.
Art is subtle and delicate, and it makes the mind too – in its movements, subtle and delicate further leading to development and training of one’s imaginative as well as creative faculties. This will lead us to the deeper secrets of the Nature within, in turn discovering the true purpose of this life’s journey.
